Year 4 Learning Examples
Children from Y3 and Y4 completed their Bikability Level 1 training.
Kestrel Class had great fun building boats from paper and tin foil to investigate the science of floating. We designed and made boats and rafts, then tested their efficiency by determining how many marbles they could hold while staying afloat!
We had a wonderful time at the Scott Polar Research Institute on Monday 9th March. We learnt lots more about Antarctica and the expeditions carried out by Scott and Shackleton. We enjoyed viewing the many interesting exhibits and finding out about the clothing and equipment needed, as well as what conditions were like near the South Pole. It was a great experience and has also helped us to prepare for writing diaries in our English lessons about Shackleton's expedition.
Year 4 have been learning all about the 'Water Cycle' in our 'States of Matter' science unit. The children now understand how the water on our planet is reused over and over again. They loved the fact that the water on our planet today is the same water from millions of years ago! They created some wonderful posters and presentations to show the Year 3 class.
Year 4 drew their own self-portraits using pencil and also made portraits inspired by Picasso.
Year 4 have been working hard in their science lessons this term. Over the past few weeks, we have been learning all about 'sound'. We have been asking ourselves, how is it created? How do our ears allow us to hear? We have been playing a variety of different instruments in order to investigate these questions. We created sound using drums, our voices, triangles and even rulers! The children discovered that the sound was created by vibrations and it travels in sound waves.
