Reception Learning Examples

Owl Class have been learning about 'Hot and Cold'. We started the half term focusing on the North and South Pole. We learnt that Penguins are from Antarctica and Polar Bears are from the North Pole. We learnt all about penguins and their igloos! We learnt that igloos are made from compressed ice blocks and contained icicles inside that come up from the ground, stalagmites, and icicles that come from the ceiling, stalactites. After this, we started to learn about opposites and therefore looked at 'hot' places. We started by learning a new story 'Handa's Surprise' which is set in Kenya.  We even got to try all of the fruits from Handa's basket to see if we liked them.  As well as our learning about 'Hot and Cold' places, we also celebrated Lunar New Year by trying Chinese Foods, making lanterns, creating music and creating Chinese Writing and even watched a real Chinese Dragon dance for us. We have had a great half term and can't wait to continue all of our fun learning and adventures next half term too!

This half term the children in Owl Class have been settling in, learning all about their new school lives and making lots of new friends. One of the topics we have been learning about is 'People who help us'. We have been lucky enough to meet lots of these people, ask questions and learn all about their jobs. We have seen a fireman and fire engine, had an awesome smile dentist day where we learnt about how to clean our teeth. We also have met a nurse who let us use lots of medical equipment such as oxygen masks and syringes. We even met a policeman and vet during this topic too. We have had circle times to talk about how they help us and the similarities and differences between them all. The children have loved learning about all of these people who help us and have recreated what they have learnt in our role play area and busy learning time. We have had a great first half term in Owl Class!
