We were so excited to see the fire brigade coming to help up fill up our pond! Some of us even got to wear the fire fighter’s helmet and jacket! A great big thank you to the Cambridge fire service.
Reception have been working hard in D&T this term. As part of their theme based on the book ‘Lost and Found’, the children were given a picture of a finished penguin as well as the steps that they could take to decorate them. The children then had the choice between following the design or making their own penguin. They were provided with a range of tools and materials to do this. The finished penguins looked fantastic. Well done everyone!
In Reception, we have been talking about winter and thinking about changes that happen during this season. The children went outside and used chalk to draw winter trees, describing what they had drawn.
In Reception, we have been exploring melting and freezing. The children put white and milk chocolate into a bowl which was inside a bowl of hot water, stirring it until it had all melted. We then poured the melted chocolate into ice cube trays and put it in the freezer. The next day, we looked at the now solid chocolate and discussed what it had happened to it. The children really enjoyed eating it!
The animals were stuck in the ice! The children had to work out how to melt the ice to set the animals free. They melted the ice using warm water, salt and by holding it in their hands to warm it up.
The children worked really hard at preparing for the Christmas show and then performing it to the school and their parents. We are very proud of the way they learnt the Christmas story and sang a range of Christmas songs in the play. Well done Reception!
This week we have been talking about Bonfire Night. The children have enjoyed making their own fireworks using paint, chalks, crayons and even leaves!
In Owl Class we have been practising recognising Numicon. Some of the children went on a hunt in the outdoor area to find the giant Numicon and place it in order from 1 to 10. We have also been looking at using Numicon to make different numbers, for example ‘4 and 2 make 6’ and ‘8 and 2 make 10’.
