Year 1 Learning Examples

Dolphin Class studied the work of Matisse and Mukherjel, who created wonderful collages. We then had a go at creating our own collages using different materials and techniques.

During Music, we used the glockenspiels to play along to a song we have been learning to sing. We focused on F and G and trying to keep in time with each other as we played. We ended by having some time to improvise while the song played.

During English, we have been looking at non-fiction books. We have discussed how these are different to fiction books and some of their key features e.g. contents, index, titles, sub-headings and illustrations. We will use the books as inspiration to write a double-page spread about a planet.

In Year 1, we have been busy working on our counting skills. We discussed how we could organise objects to make them easy to count, how to make sure we only counted each object once and that the last number we say is how many we have in our group. Mrs Koster kept making mistakes, but luckily Dolphin Class were gave clear steps on what she needed to do improve her counting skills.
