Summer Term 2017

Purple Mash
From September, both schools at the Federation will be learning to use a new Learning Platform called Purple Mash. On the Home page of each school’s webpage, you will notice a link to the Purple Mash site. Children will be provided with login details.

Teachers and children alike have been investigating the different activities available on the site this week. Year 1 loved creating their own version of the Gingerbread Man. We look forward to exploring more Purple Mash in the new school year.

June - Gingerbread Man Performance
We have been exploring the traditional tale of the gingerbread man. We have performed the story in groups and then showed our class! What performers!

June - Beans
Beans! We have started our own from seed, and planted them in the garden near our classrooms. We will watch to see how they grow for the next few weeks. Stay tuned!

June - Maths Day
Here we are at maths day! We had an amazing time travelling to see different classrooms and explore all things maths in each. We looked at measure, shapes, addition, subtraction and money and were able to engage with activities in all. Fantastic!

June - Gingerbread Houses
We made gingerbread houses in English. After planning them, we constructed our designs with biscuits and sweeties. They may not have looked exactly as our design, but we had fun trying!

June - Beach Day
Beach day was a huge success! What a treat to have visitors from Queen Edith to share in our day to mark the summer term. We had activities, games and got to meet new friends along the way. Lots of fun!

June - Money
In maths we are focusing on money this week by identifying coins and amounts. We will use addition and subtraction to continue to utilise or understanding practically.

June - Traditional Tales
We have been looking at traditional tales in English. We are starting with the story of Hansel and Gretel and using our understanding of it to design a story map, perform some parts, and then create our own ending!

June - Food Patterns
We have been exploring food and patterned printing. We looked at some Orla Kiely designs and then we painted, cut, and made our own!

May - Ball Skills
The year 1's have had a chance to practise ball handling skills outside this week. We looked at bounce passes and focused on accuracy!

May - Shell
We were thrilled to describe some lovely shell we created in art lessons!

May - Lost Sheep
In our parables unit in RE, we read the story of the Lost Sheep together. We discussed the importance of the story, and then created our own lost sheep!

May - Commotion In The Ocean
We used the story 'Commotion in the Ocean' to puzzle together the poems and then perform them in front of our friends! Fantastic performances!

April - Place Value
We have been looking at place value and understanding tens and units by exploring activities with base ten blocks!
